The Paypal Merchant Account Review

The purpose of an Internet marketer having a merchant account with Paypal is that it is difficult to run an Internet business without one. Paypal simply has no viable competition.

Pros: PayPal is the most used (read ‘only’) way that businesses send and receive payments on the Internet. There are, of course, other options but so far PayPal really doesn’t have any viable competition out there that is totally acceptable.

The affiliate or referral program payments are based upon the sales made by the referred Paypal customer. When a new business signs up for a business or premier account at Paypal, the referrer is awarded .5% of all sales that new merchant makes from their website until the referral bonus totals $1000. Sales made on eBay are not included in this total, however.

Paypal affiliates are paid $3 per new business or premier account that they provide. There is an additional payment of $20 when the account is activated and a sale is made from the website. If the sale is made from the eBay website, the payment is only $1. This is in addition to the possible bonus of $1000 that is discussed above.

Cons: The PayPal affiliate program will only apply to business to business Internet marketers or to those who provide information and instruction to new marketers. It will not be of any value to those who sell to customers because the accounts that are opened must be marketing accounts.

Guarantee: There is no guarantee.

Value for money: There is no initial charge for opening a merchant account on PayPal.

paypal is a great option for small internet based businesses who want to process credit cards. the fees are higher than most merchant accounts or other processing options, but it is convenient, especially if you don't know what kind of processing your business needs. also, paypal is a well-known name and both the buyer and seller protection is outstanding.
